General Machining

At H&B Tool, all types of general machining in any size or quantity can be accommodated. Everyday, our machinists manufacture to our customers’ strict specifications using Inconel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Hastelloy, Waspaloy, Haynes 230 and various cast and forged metal shapes. Complex parts with special milling and turning are our specialty.

EDM and Wire EDM

H&B Tool has its own EDM (Electrical Discharge Machine) department. This talented department with five available machines, including conventional ram, wire EDM and hole popper, can handle a variety of projects. With many years of experience on aircraft specifications, this department, as with other departments, welcomes a challenging application.

Rig Fabrication and Assembly

H&B Tool has resources unlike most small machine shops. There are three service bays, 25 feet x 55 feet each; one with a dual monorail hoist system capable of lifting up to 20 tons. This set-up allows H&B Tool to handle large rig assemblies while leaving room for instrumentation technicians to perform additional operations without interference.

Heat Treating and Brazing

H&B Tool does 95% of required heat-treating on many different alloys. A wide array of silver, gold and nichrome brazing is also done on the premises. Our success at heat treat and brazing enables us to provide a quality product and shortened lead-times.

Instrumentation

H&B’s full-time staff of trained instrumentation technicians are responsible for developing the machined raw products into finely tuned temperature or pressure sensors. This fully equipped department can handle single thermocouple and pressure sensors to complete flight quality probe assemblies; one-piece experimental specialty items to a monthly production quantity order.

Strain Gages

Our strain gage lab offers a full range of strain gage  applications – from sub zero, using epoxy cements, to the hostile environment of gas turbines requiring a Rokide flame spray installation. Our customers’ needs vary from military to commercial, on rotating to non-rotating hardware, and we are equipped to meet all needs.

Embedment of Pressure and Temperature Sensors

H&B Tool and Engineering is one of the leaders in the aerospace industry involving embedding thermocouples and pressures sensors via brazing, flame-spraying, epoxy or wedge wiring. This process allows our customers to obtain required data without jeopardizing performance.

We are set-up using the latest Unigraphics software and are capable of importing files with an .iges, .step, or .dxf extension.

Welding

Our welding department has certified welders capable of welding 3mil thermocouple wire on experimental test hardware. H&B uses state-of-the-art equipment to deliver expertly welded components meeting flight hardware quality requirements. H&B welders are certified for the following welding procedures:

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Another division of H&B Tool is a full service sheet metal facility. Our product line includes a wide array of sheet metal parts from simple brackets to very complex forms for space shuttle and aerospace hardware.

Quality Control System

H&B Tool is an ISO certified company. Our quality control department operates under a special program reserved for selected suppliers with a rating of “Excellent” in quality.

Parts Release Program (PRP) - This program allows a supplier to deliver finished parts without in-house source inspection.

Laboratory Control at Source (LCS) - LCS allows the supplier to control all raw materials and processes at their facility without further testing by the customer.

In addition to PRP and LCS quality, H&B Tool is also approved for ASQR-01 and GE1000.

Presently, our quality system has been approved by the following companies: Siemens, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, General Electric Company, Hamilton Sundstrand, United Technologies Diesel Systems, Boeing and the Department of Defense.
